A visual representation of a process used for two main purposes – to understand the relationship between inputs and outputs and to identify waste reduction opportunities.
There are many versions of process mapping used in process improvement work. The practitioner must choose the one that best meets his or her needs.
Types of Process Maps:- SIPOC – Identifies Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs and Customers. - Flow Chart – Shows work flow with decision points and if/then logic. - Deployment Flow Chart – Shows workflow with decision points and if/then logic with “swim lanes” depicting functional responsibilities. - Value Added Flow Chart – Separates the value-added from the non-value-added steps in a process. - Spaghetti Diagram – Shows the physical flow of work.
