Definition
Dr. Joseph M. Juran began his career as a quality inspector at the Western Electric plant in Chicago in 1924 where he worked with W. Edwards Deming and Walter Shewhart. He is credited with bringing the human element into the field of quality - emphasizing training, workforce empowerment and the responsibility of management to provide time and resources for quality improvement. Juran published The Quality Control Handbook in 1954, now in its 4th edition. A pioneer in the field of Quality Management, Juran developed the Juran Quality Trilogy which describes Quality Planning, Quality Control and Quality Improvement and their relationship to each other.
