Definition
A manufacturing philosophy where downstream operations replenish their inventories by pulling work-in-process inventory on demand from upstream operations. This helps reduce total in-process inventory and all the costs associated with it. Workflow is improved by reducing lot sizes, which in turn reduces set–up times and Lead Times, producing the “right part in the right place and at the right time”.
