Definition
The highest level of mastery of the Six Sigma body of knowledge is denoted by this term. Standards vary widely, and Master Black Belt is sometimes a job title rather than being based on "certified" mastery of an advanced body of knowledge.
As with Black Belt, there is no central authority that governs development and application of Certification standards. Generally, achievement of Certified Master Black Belt status requires extensive experience (years) as a Black Belt, significant project experience (>20), mastery of advanced skills in the area of leadership, coaching, statistical analysis and project management.
Master Black Belts are expected to be active teachers and coaches, so they must have extensive experience providing successful instruction in the Black Belt body of knowledge.
