Definition

The eight forms of waste (Muda) classified by Taiichi Ohno in the Toyota Production System. There were originally seven forms of waste:

1. (Unnecessary) Inventory
2. Overproduction
3. Waiting
4. Transporting
5. Inappropriate Processing
6. Unnecessary Motion
7. Defects

To these was added an eightth form of waste: 8. Underutilized personnel.
