Gap Analysis

Go Back

Definition

A study used to determine how to take a process from the current state of performance to the desired state. It follows as a logical continuation of benchmarking and baselining activities. Acheiving Six Sigma capability levels almost always requires a design focus - if not minor design revisions implemented within a DMAIC project, then an overall redesign or a completely new product or process design executed through a DFSS project. One of the tools that may be employed for gap analysis is Quality Function Deployment (QFD).
