Definition

An experimental unit is the smallest part of the experimental material to which a specific treatment is to be applied. Thus, if the study involves patients receiving different treatments, then each patient is a unit. If different fertilizers are applied to different plots of land, then an individual plot is the experimental unit. If in the study each lot (subgroup) of silicon chips receives one of the treatments being compared, then each lot of chips is an experimental unit.
