Definition

Quality is a term which encompasses many things, but in the language of six sigma, the quality of a product or service is defined as its fitness for use, or ability to meet customer expectations. Quality improvement is the basis of Six Sigma, with an emphasis on the bottom-line and cost reduction, building on the "Cost of Quality" (or "Cost of Poor Quality) concept. The rigorous use of performance Metrics and a clear, customer focused objective have proved key to the success of six sigma quality efforts.
