Definition

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards are internationally agreed upon standards which provide a reference framework for products and services to trade and compete in a fair and consistent manner. The ISO was formed in 1947 with the objective "to facilitate the international coordination and unification of industrial standards" (ref: see link below). The ISO 9000 and 14000 series are among the most widely known standards.
