Percent Contribution

Go Back

Definition

The percentage of the total variation attributed to the factor or source under consideration. The regression statistic R-square (R2) gives the percent contribution of the chosen model to the total study variance. The relative significance of the different Factors in the study can be judged on the basis of their contributions to the total variance.

Examples

In a Gage R&R study, the percent contributions of multiple sources of variation, such as different parts, operators and the gage itself (repeatability) are compared to determine which source contributes the most to the overall process variation and help decide whether the measurement system is acceptable or not.
