Definition

Dr. Mikel Harry began his career as a quality engineer at Motorola. In 1994 he founded the Six Sigma Academy and worked with Allied Signal and General Electric to deploy Six Sigma. He is credited with coining the term "Black Belt" and with the practice of measuring quality using the sigma-value scale. The use of the 'long term 1.5 sigma shift' factor employed in calculations of the process sigma level is also attributed to him.
